We provide a range of Services. Numerous workshops are conducted at schools or at READ.

Read Diploma Course (RDC)

The READ Diploma Course is in collaboration with the College of Speech Language & Hearing Sciences, Ziauddin University. It is a six month course with 20 hours of practical teacher training. After completing the course teachers have a wide range of theoretical information and practical knowledge. This information is applied in their teaching and management of students with or without learning differences. These special needs teachers have a significant edge over their counterparts in the field of education.

REMEDIATION

After a student has been screened or assessed a teacher at READ is able to make a remedial plan targeting their difficulties. A remedial plan is tailor made to the needs of the student. The teacher applies a bottom up approach and uses a student’s strength to remedy weaknesses.

Since dyslexic children do not respond to conventional language learning instructions, R.E.A.Dyslexics has designed a comprehensive tutorial-based program that is especially tailored to suit the needs of a particular child. At R.E.A.Dyslexics, three leading language learning (remedial) programs have been integrated over the years to form the READ PROGRAM . It is a blend of two US-¬based programs, the Orton-Gillingham and the Harvard Laboratory, and the British Hickey Program. Besides addressing the academic aspects, it relies on the therapeutic tutor/pupil rapport. It also develops the child’s personality resulting in improved self-esteem, self-confidence and self-directed learning.

SCREENING

History of the child from birth to the present.
Finding out the child’s spelling age, vocabulary (prior knowledge) phonic skills, letter sequence and recognition.
Recognition of colours, shapes and body parts.

Verbal feedback is given to the parents that may include an Educational Evaluation or an Psycho Educational Evaluation. But if the child is a non-starter, he/she cannot be tested and can start remediation with immediate effect.

This entire screening process takes more than 60 minutes.

PSYCHO EDCUATIONAL ASSESSMENT

A clinical psychologist at READ, administers an academic and cognitive assessment on a student. This complete evaluation determines a reason for the student’s specific difficulties.

EDUCATIONAL EVALUATION

This assessment is conducted by remedial therapists at READ. It comprises of a number of Standardized Tests that cover all key aspects of language acquisition. The results enable READ to recognize the pupil’s strong and weak areas, forming the basis of a suitable remedial program.

COUNSELING

READ offers counseling services for students who have trouble coming to terms with their learning differences. Counseling is also available to parents who have trouble coping with the demands of being special needs parents.

WORKSHOPS

READ conducts Special Needs Awareness workshops for parents at schools, these are also beneficial for teachers in the mainstream schooling system. A number of teaching skills workshops are offered by READ for teacher’s career enhancement.

During school holidays READ offers workshops for students of Grade 3 onwards. These are usually to build on their reading, comprehension or creative writing.
